Awareness Activities Related to Organ Donation
Through MOHAN Foundation (www.mohanfoundation.org), done pioneering work in the field of deceased donation transplantation programme in India. With limited resources, it has worked to create a unique 'Indian Model' for successful deceased organ donation in parts of India, by acting as the bridge between the stakeholders-- the public, the medical fraternity and the governments.
Taking a 360-degree approach it has innovatively responded to the complex issue, thereby showing the way forward to the governments, hospitals and policy makers. Almost 70% of all deceased donor transplants over the last 14 years are due to the efforts of the counselors trained by MOHAN Foundation.
This effort has given a new lease of life to 14,313 lives through facilitating for organ and tissue donation such as Heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, heart valves, corneas, intestine and pancreas.

In 2015, MOHAN Foundation signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), UK with the objective to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between the two organizations with the aim of increasing the organ donation rate in India and the United Kingdom (UK).
Deceased Training in Field of Organ Donation
Across India it has created an enabling ecosystem for deceased donation program through creating awareness, capacity building and helping state governments to initiate and sustain the program:
- Trained more than 3,954 Transplant Coordinators
- Trained 700 Intensive Care Doctors through workshops
- Trained 300 Surgeons for Organ Retrieval & Transplantation
- Established Indian Organ Transplant Registry (www.transplantindia.com) under Indian Society of Organ Transplantation. This has helped in compiling some of the data on kidney transplants done in India and their outcome. The registry is first of its kind in Asia.
Establishing Organ Donation & Transplantation at State Level
- Helped establish deceased donation program in Tamil Nadu by partnering with the state health department. Provides counsellors in 11 Government Hospitals and provides technology support to run its website (transtan.tn.gov.in).
- Helped establish deceased donation program in state of Andhra Pradesh by partnering with the state health department. Provides counsellors in 2 Government Hospitals.
- Helped establish deceased donation program in Kerala by partnering with the state health department. Provides technology support for the organ sharing and allocation website (www.knos.org.in).
- Helped establish deceased donation program in the state of Rajasthan by partnering with the state health department. Provides technology support for the organ sharing and allocation website (sotto.rajasthan.gov.in).
- Helped establish deceased donation program in government hospitals in Maharashtra by signing a MoU with the Department of Medical Education and providing free counselling services and transplant coordination in government hospitals in Nagpur and Pune.
- Helped establish deceased donation program in government hospitals in Karnataka by signing a MoU with the state health department providing free counselling services and transplant coordination in government hospitals in the state.
- Helped establish in the state of Manipur in living kidney and deceased donation program by signing a MoU with the state health department, providing free counselling services and transplant coordination in the government hospitals in the state. Successfully helped performed 25 kidney transplants in the last 12 months.
- Helped the state of Haryana to start living and deceased donation program in Pt. B.D. Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, by signing a MoU with the state health department, providing free counselling services and transplant coordination.
- Helped the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, to start deceased donation program in the hospital.
- Helping Govt of Tripura to start the deceased donation program in Govt Hospital in Agartala.
Field of Healthcare Information Technology
As a founder and chief Editor of www.medindia.net - established the largest health website from India, which today is amongst the top twenty health websites in the world with a domain authority of 73. It empowers consumers with validated health information and its million pages of content reaches out to over 30 million visitors from across the world every year. It provides all its online services free of cost to the Indian public.
Established 'Medical Computer Society of India' -- A Unique Indian body that promotes the use of computers in Medical sciences for better patient care and to bring the cost of treatment down (www.mcsiindia.com). It has done 5 national and International conferences in India that has been attended by over 2,000 delegates (Meditel 2000, Meditel 2002, Meditel 2004, Meditel 2006, Meditel 2008). It has developed various applications for doctors to ease their practice.
Has been the Lead Trainer for Telemedicine Society of India to train doctors in the practice of Telemedicine. Trained over 15,000 doctors from all over India through webinars and online courses (www.tsi.org).
