Organs going waste in Chennai, say surgeons Trending
CHENNAI: State organ transplant authority Transtan’s message three months ago to all hospitals to ensure organs are not alloted to foreign patients overlooking Indians has resulted in relatives of brain-dead patients in the state being asked to register whether they want to donate the organs “only to Indians”. This has upset senior transplant surgeons across hospitals, who say no foreign patient has been alloted an organ in the last four months even when an Indian can’t be found.
Transtan also asks all hospitals to stake claim to an organ only when they have an Indian recipient. “We are doing everything to ensure that rules are adhered to.
