Patna: The 91st foundation day celebrations of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) kicked off with five memorial lectures on Wednesday evening. An alumni meet will be part of the main function which is scheduled for Thursday.The founder trustee of Mohan Foundation, Dr Sunil Shroff, was at the lecture to speak on challenges of organ donation and organ transplantation in Bihar.

“I am surprised to see Bihar is yet to start it. Other than three northeastern states, Uttarakahand and Chhattisgarh, it happens everywhere,” said Dr Shroff, who is also a 1982-batch alumnus of PMCH.Expressing happiness over the government nod to Patna’s IGIMS for this, Dr Shroff said it is high time the state government formed a committee to expedite the process and set strict deadlines for every task because people, especially the poor, are dying due to lack of this facility. He also offered assistance from the Mohan Foundation for the purpose if the government so wished.Giving Dr V N Singh Memorial Oration on head injury epidemiology and management, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar director Dr A K Mahapatra said India tops the chart of road accident deaths. “There’s an accident every minute and a death every eight minutes in India. The vehicles in India number only 1% of world’s total vehicles, but the accidents in India number 6% of world accidents,” the renowned neurosurgeon said and attributed the world’s highest number of accidents to the fact that “we don’t wear helmets or seat belts and specialise in flouting traffic norms”…..Readmore
