To honour donors whose organs helped save many lives and their families who consented to the donation, Fortis Malar Hospital in the city has set up a ‘Wall of Tribute’ on its premises. Relatives of people whose organs had been donated participated in the dedication of the wall.Doctors emphasised the importance of organ donation and stressed the need for the programme to expand across the country.“In the last five years, organ donation has gone up 10 times — from 0.05 per million in the country to 0.5 per million. But even now, there is a huge gap,” said Avnish Seth, director, Fortis Organ Retrieval and Transplant. He added that there was still a huge gap between the number of transplants required in the country versus the number of transplants performed across it, every year.Need of the hour Organ donation continues to be the need of the hour, said Sunil Shroff of MOHAN Foundation, an organisation that creates awareness about donation. He said all doctors should carry donor cards and that all hospital should have standard operating procedures for organ donation.J.
